Book Review - Running Wild

By Michael Murpurgo

This amazing book begins in England, where a young boy named Will lives an ordinary life with his dearest Mother and Father. Will's Father goes off to war in Iraq and never returns home. Will and his Mother decide to go off on a short holiday to Indonesia. All does not turn out quite as expected and it is here that the Boxing day Tsunami catches up with them.
Just when Will feels that all might be lost he meets an unlikely friend who helps him through the dangerous jungle. Will he survive and who is this loyal friend?!

"Running Wild" shows us that life is full of ups and downs. It's great reading for those who enjoy a colourful adventure!

The Odyssey

Recently, I read a classic story called The Odyssey retold by Louie Stowell. This story is about a King called  Odysseus who comes home from a seven year war against Troy. When Odysseus tries to return home with an army of men theres a storm and they find themselves lost and fighting against the wrath of cyclops, witches, Gods, flying sirens and sea monsters. While fighting the evil Gods and monsters, his kingdom is being taken over by greedy scroungers.  However, he faces tragedy and his worried and scared that he will loose his kingdom forever. Odysseus needs to survive and plans how he will reclaim his kingdom.

I enjoyed the story very much because it was full of adventures and had a lot of interesting characters. The part I liked the best was when Odysseus fought the witch. There was a lot of good description. If you like fantasy and adventure stories, you would love this one.

A Bear Called Paddington

Recently I went to the movie called Paddington with my family. I enjoyed it so I wanted to read the book. The story is about this bear that comes from Darkest Peru and comes to England. He was in the Paddington station and met the Brown family. He often gets in trouble but it ends well.

I found lots of differences between the movie and the book. For example, The movie starts at Darkest Peru but the book starts at Paddington station and in the movie they come back from holidays but in the book the kids are coming back from boarding school. The other differences are in the movie there is an explorer whose daughter tries to kill Paddington but in the book they don't exist.

The Twits By Roald Dahl

This book is one of the most funniest books I've read!  This book is about the two horrible Mrs and Mr Twit!  In the story Mrs and Mr do lots of pranks on each other the first one was the glass eye prank, Mrs. Twit, as if to have Mr. Twit know that she is always watching him, places her glass eye in Mr. Twits beer to scare him and with her back facing Mr. Twit, she says that he was plotting. Mr. Twit get angry at Mrs. Twit so what he does in revenge is putting a alive frog in Mrs. Twits bed! There are more funny pranks that they do, read the book to find out!

Mr. Twit is a horrible person, having hair that covers his entire face, with the exception of his forehead eyes, and nose. His hair is spiky and hard. Because he never washes it, his beard holds scraps of food dropped there while he ate, including tinned sardines, Stilton cheese, and corn flakes. He licks these scraps out and eats them. Instead of wiping his mouth with a cloth, Mr. Twit simply wipes it on his sleeve. Mr Twit is a beer drinker – even drinking at breakfast. He is known to seem very quiet when he is plotting evil tricks, the victim of which is usually his equally unpleasant wife. He and his wife mistreat their monkeys.

Mrs. Twit is the hideously ugly, menacing wife of Mr. Twit, whose former beauty was distorted as a result of constant horrible thoughts over time. She takes advantage of her glass eye to play practical jokes in revenge against her husband. However, aside from this, she is portrayed as being hideous and unhygienic.

I think girls and boys of my age would like this book and even some adults would find it funny!  I definitely would recommend this book!
